The pricing for the retractable outdoor sun shades displayed above is based on total quantity. If you're looking to install three retractable sun shades of any size, you should refer to the "Installed Qty 2-3" pricing column. Please note that pricing is based on the next size up; for example, if you need pricing for a 100" solar shade, you should refer to the 108" row.

Our retractable patio screens are categorized into three types: an 85" drop for 8-foot ceilings, a 99" drop for 10-foot ceilings, and a 168" drop for taller ceilings. The prices listed include a measurement trip to your home, materials for making the roller sun shades, manufacturing of the exterior solar shades, delivery to your home, installation of the outdoor sun shades, and sales tax. These are the complete, out-of-pocket costs.

Question : My ceiling is 8', but from the ceiling to the floor measures 96", should I not get the 99" drop roll up outdoor patio shades? I want my outside shades to drop all the way to the floor, can I do that?
& Answer : These outdoor porch and patio roll-up solar shades should be installed so they drop 20 to 24 inches from the floor. It's not necessary to lower the outdoor roll-down shades all the way to the ground, as doing so will significantly reduce airflow. Maintaining a 20 to 24-inch gap between the bottom of the outdoor roller shade and the floor is essential for proper air movement. Refer to the accompanying pictures of my outdoor roller shade installations in Austin, Texas, for a clearer visual understanding.

Once we receive this deposit, we will email you a date that we will swing by your home to get precise build measurements for the retractable roll shades. Our process does not require anyone to be home. Our current route schedule will be displayed. Once we get our build measurements, we will email you an order the next day to pay and approve along with an installation date (the installation does not require anyone to be home). This entire process, from the time you submit your deposit to the day we install your new custom made outdoor solar shades is generally completed within 14 Days -two weeks-. After you have submitted your measure deposit, please email us at josh@joshhobbs.com precise measure instructions, so we know what to measure. And, if you need help with colors, choose "Help Me Choose" for the fabric color option and we will leave behind our recommendations along with fabric samples so that when you get home this will all be waiting there for you.

$50 Measure Deposit

Question : Are there some manual outdoor rollup shade projects that you won't take on? If so, is the $50 deposit refundable

& Answer : If I am unable to install your roll-up patio shades due to height limitations, mounting issues, or other concerns, the deposit is fully refundable. However, the deposit will not be refunded if, upon my arrival, it appears that you expected a motorized roller shade or if you believe these outdoor roller shades can be sealed to keep bugs out.

I strive to provide detailed information about my Austin patio blinds to ensure there is no ambiguity or misunderstanding. To help with this, I now require that you send me pictures of the patio before I schedule a visit. This allows me to assess the project and determine if it can be completed.

Question : What is your Austin TX manual retractable outdoor sun shades services installation area ?

& Answer : Our Austin Texas outdoor sun shades service area includes the following surrounding areas - Pflugerville Texas, Round Rock Texas, Hutto Texas, Georgetown TX, Leander TX, Cedar Park Texas, Buda and Manor. Question : I see that you have exterior solar shades for patios and porches, but do you also make commercial window shades or residential roll up solar shades?

& Answer : I do not make roll up shades for residential windows, however, I do make and install my own line of interior commercial roller shades.

Question : Can I see pictures of homes in the Austin TX area that you installed your outdoor shades on? What do your outdoor roll up patio blinds look like? Will your custom-made outdoor shades for porches provide a lot of shade for my patio and porch from the sun?

Question : How do your outdoor sun shades mount? How do you install your custom manual roll up patio shades?

Question : Are your outdoor roller shades motorized? How does one control, roll up and down, your outdoor patio shade screens?

& Answer : My roll up patio shade screens are controlled by a made in USA pull chain clutch. There are two clutches, one that has a pull rating of 36lbs and the other with a pull rating of 56 lbs. Our clutches are made by Acemdia Rollease. Question : Will your patio solar shades keep the flying insects and bugs out?

& Answer : No, my patio outdoor patio blinds are only meant to provide temporary sunshade from the sun. If you want bug protection, you are going to want to find an outdoor blinds for porch product called a zippertrack system. That would be a system where the exterior blinds would have a zipper glued to the left and right sides of the fabric that slide into a track on the sides of the exterior blinds.

Question : How much shade can I expect to get from your manual chain-driven exterior sun shades? Will your patio blinds make my back patio bearable during the Summer?

& Answer : My patio's exterior roller shades will provide an impressive amount of shade, offering a 97% sunshade. Additionally, I can create the porch shades using my 90% shade fabric, which I also use for my solar window screens. There is a significant difference in solar shade efficacy when comparing 90% to 97%.

However, one drawback of the 97% fabric, if it can even be considered a downside, is that it restricts airflow due to its density. To address this, the porch shades should only be lowered 20 to 24 inches from the ground, allowing light breezes to circulate into the patio.

Question : I want to shade the windows and back patio, can I use your patio sun shades for that purpose?

& Answer : My patio sun shades are designed for temporary use. They should be lowered when you need them and rolled back up when you do not. These shades are not intended to be left down all day, especially at night when the wind tends to pick up.

To ensure their longevity, it is best to lower my sun shades when you are on the patio and roll them back up when you leave. Although my sun shades can withstand wind, a constant beating can, over time, be destructive.

Question : What keeps the retractable patio screens from blowing around in the wind? How do the retractable sun shades stay in place?

& Answer : I build my sun blocking shades with bungee tie-downs in the bottom corners. These bungee tie-downs loop around hooks we put in the walls. The bungee allows for the sun shade itself to flex and move with the wind. This helps to reduce the stress put on the clutch that keeps the fabric from pulling off of the tube the fabric is rolled around. The clutch is geared so that the fabric will not come off of the tube unless the chain is pulled. The clutches are made up of springs and gears and those can give and strip with a lot of pressure, which is one reason why we use the bungee to allow for the fabric to flex and move in the wind to not put pressure on those gears and springs. Question : Can we see through your sun shades for decks? Will your retractable shades give us privacy under our patio?
& Answer : It is incredible how well during the day you can see through my 97% porch blinds from the inside looking out. However, during the day, people from the outside (aka your neighbors) CAN NOT see through the fabric to see in your back patio or porch. Question : How does your sun shades for decks and patio pricing compare to others? How does your pricing compare for zipper track motorized outdoor shades?

& Answer : I tell people all the time that call me that the zippertrack motorized solar shades are wonderful products. They are very well-made and very durable. My exterior sun shades are more economical, they are for the budget-minded consumer. My manual roller shades are roughly 1/3rd of the zippertrack motorized roller shade pricing. I tell people often that I am the one you turn to when you get sticker shock from the cost of the motorized zipper track systems. I manufacture all of my own manual outdoor roller shades right here in Austin, TX, so my pricing is VERY HARD to beat. I cut out all middleman costs and all shipping costs, which my competitors have to accrue to get their outdoor shades here, because there are no other outdoor sun shade manufacturers here in Austin, Texas, that I am aware of.

Question : I have an outdoor enclosed porch, can these be used as porch blinds? I am looking for porch shades, will your outdoor shades work? How will you install your outdoor blinds for the porch on the inside or the outside?

& Answer : My porch sun shades are a perfect complement to any patio screen enclosure. My outdoor shades for the porch can not be used for bug protection, that is why you fully enclose your porch and patio with insect bug screens. If you already have an enclosed porch or patio and are looking for outdoor blinds for an enclosed patio to provide sun shade, then my product is perfect.
